Develop and implement sourcing strategies for agricultural commodities based on market intelligence, price trends, and business needs.Supplier Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with local and international suppliers. Monitor supplier performance in terms of quality, delivery, and compliance.Market Intelligence & Risk Management:
Track global and domestic commodity markets, weather patterns, geopolitical developments, and policy changes impacting supply and prices. Recommend hedging or forward contracting as needed.Negotiation & Contracting:
Lead negotiations to secure favorable terms and prices. Draft and manage contracts in compliance with company policies and industry regulations (e.g., GAFTA).Inventory & Cost Management:
Monitor commodity cost impacts on business profitability.Sustainability & Compliance:
Ensure sourcing practices adhere to sustainability standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., phytosanitary rules, traceability).Cross-functional Collaboration:
Align with production, quality assurance, logistics, and finance teams to ensure smooth flow of raw materials and resolve supply issues promptly.Managerial Responsibilities:Team Leadership:
Lead and manage a team of Commodity/Procurement Buyers to ensure effective execution of commodity strategies and procurement operations.Performance Management:
Set clear goals, KPIs, and development plans for team members. Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback and coaching.Training & Development:
Identify skills gaps and organize training programs to build team capabilities in commodity trading, risk management, and procurement best practices.Process Improvement:
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the team to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness in commodity sourcing.Resource Planning:
Manage staffing needs, delegate tasks appropriately, and ensure optimal resource allocation to meet business requirements.Qualifications
- Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Economics, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commodity trading, procurement, or supply chain management with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of agricultural commodities (e.g., corn, soybean meal, wheat) and trading platforms.
- Familiarity with international trade regulations and contract frameworks.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in market analysis tools and ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
- Willingness to travel for supplier visits, trade events, and market scouting.
