The Sales Tax Team Lead (Offshore) will manage the day-to-day operations of the offshore sales tax compliance team. Reporting to the U.S.-based Sales Tax Manager, this role will supervise local staff responsible for preparing, reviewing, and filing sales and use tax returns across multiple U.S. jurisdictions. The Team Lead will ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established procedures, while acting as the primary offshore point of contact for escalations and coordination with U.S. management.---Key Responsibilities:Team Leadership & Operations
- Supervise and develop a team of offshore sales tax analysts/specialists.
- Assign and monitor workloads to ensure filings are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Review team deliverables for quality and compliance with U.S. tax requirements.
- Serve as the first escalation point for offshore staff, resolving issues before they reach the U.S. manager.
- Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to tea mbers.
- Oversee preparation and filing of U.S. state and local sales and use tax returns.
- Ensure accurate reconciliation of tax data with general ledger and source systems.
- Manage responses to notices from state and local tax authorities in coordination with U.S. management.
- Support registration, licensing, and jurisdictional setup for new states and localities.
- Maintain compliance calendars and enforce adherence to filing deadlines.
- Document and uphold standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and recommend process improvements.
- Support implementation and optimization of tax compliance software and automation tools.
- Act as the bridge between the offshore team and the U.S.-based Sales Tax Manager.
- Provide regular updates on team performance, deadlines, and issues.
- Ensure effective cross-time zone communication and alignment of priorities.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of U.S. sales and use tax compliance experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
- Strong technical knowledge of multi-jurisdiction sales and use tax compliance.
- Prior experience leading an offshore or BPO team strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks Online) and tax compliance platforms (e.g., Avalara, Vertex).
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with proven ability to manage in a cross-border environment.
