Associate Counsel (Shopee)

• Work with business team to provide timely, pragmatic legal advice on all aspects of laws and legal matters across all business units, including trade laws, labor, tax and general compliance.
• Review and update internal policies, templates, and operational guidelines, supporting their implementation to ensure compliance with legal requirements and group consistency.
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to manage sensitive internal investigations and other grievances and disputes, including assessing legal risk and advising on appropriate outcomes.
• Manage regulatory inquiries, investigations, and inspections, preparing timely responses and advising on corrective actions and improvements, as required.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to proactively identify and manage legal risks, balancing compliance with operational and commercial objectives.
• Support the Litigation team in handling general disputes, including providing input on strategy and identifying opportunities to strengthen operational practices.
• Monitor regulatory developments relevant to the business, assessing their impact on the company's operations and providing recommendations to the business.
• Deliver training to internal stakeholders on law updates, compliance risk areas, and best practices.

• Qualified lawyer with 3-5 years' post-qualification experience in compliance advisory and/or litigation. Prior law firm and in-house experience is preferred but not essential.
• Strong working knowledge of Philippine law; regional experience is a plus.
• Ability to leverage legal technology and AI tools to enhance efficiency, support legal research and analysis, and improve the delivery of practical, business-focused legal solutions.
• Proven ability to manage cross-border matters and stakeholders, and to execute projects effectively.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence, advise and collaborate across business, other stakeholders, and legal functions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal issues for non-legal audiences.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth, and matrixed environment, balancing commercial pragmatism with legal compliance.
