- Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing for UK-based companies, including calculation of PAYE, National Insurance Contributions (NIC), statutory payments (sick, maternity/paternity), and pension deductions.
- Prepare and submit all necessary payroll documentation to HMRC, ensuring strict adherence to UK deadlines and compliance requirements.
- Generate and distribute electronic payslips, P45s, P60s, and other statutory forms for UK employees.
- Address payroll queries from UK employees and managers promptly.
- Bookkeeping
- Record and reconcile daily financial transactions (supplier invoices, client receipts, expenses, and bank statements) for UK businesses.
- Prepare management accounts, work-in-progress (WIP) assessments, and support year-end statutory accounts preparation as per UK financial standards.
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity, assisting in audit preparation and maintaining robust compliance with UK regulations (including VAT and corporation tax).
- Compliance & Best Practices
- Stay updated with UK payroll legislation, accounting standards, and GDPR requirements.
- Suggest and implement process improvements for efficiency and compliance.
- Coordinate with client directors, service providers, and external accountants as needed.
- Demonstrable experience managing UK payroll and bookkeeping (practical knowledge of PAYE, NIC, UK pensions, and statutory compliance is essential).
- Proficiency in UK-relevant accounting/payroll software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar cloud-based platforms.
- Strong English communication skills and the ability to work independently across international time zones.
- Attention to detail, analytical skills, and strong organizational abilities handling confidential client data.
- UK-recognised accounting or payroll qualification (AAT, CIPP, ICAEW, or equivalent) is desirable.
- Previous remote work experience with UK or international clients preferred.
- You must be able to deliver services in accordance with UK regulatory requirements and a manner compliant with GDPR for any personal data handled.
- You may be subject to anti-money laundering regulations depending on the scope of bookkeeping services offered; registration with HMRC is sometimes required for accountancy service providers, even if based outside the UK.
- You will use secure, cloud-based systems to ensure seamless workflow and client communication.
- Part time initially — 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:30 am – 2:30 pm UK time (potential to progress to full-time as required)
