How will you make an impact in this role The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks. The Operational Risk Management (ORM) team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective operational risk management programs throughout the company, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes. The objective of the Operational Risk Management (ORM) Process Risk Reduction and Analytics team is to address identified systemic and emerging operational risks, to ensure the integrity and efficiency of business processes, and maintain the alignment of risk reduction efforts through well-executed risk mitigation and remediations activities. The team does this through analyzing data and looking for themes across the company's processes and operational risk stripes using advanced analytics tools, in addition to quantifying operational risks, developing key risk indicators (KRIs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational risk metrics to assess risk exposure. Operational Risk Management (ORM) is looking for aManagerof Process Risk Reduction and Analytics to be part of a diverse team of high-performing professionals focused on identifying systemic and emerging risks, performing analytics and reporting and ensuring effective operational risk management is embedded in the day-to-day operations of our organization. It will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across numerous business units, functional areas, and geographies. Responsibilities: Support cross-functional initiatives by partnering with risk and data teams to design and enhance analytics that improve the identification and management of systemic and emerging operational risks. Execute advanced risk analytics, developing and applying statistical models, data-driven tools, and methodologies to quantify and monitor operational risks, and provide actionable insights on risk trends and potential organizational impacts. Design and deliver data solutions, including metrics, dashboards, and visualization tools, leveraging strong data modeling, ETL, and business intelligence skills to enable risk monitoring and reporting. Collaborate with technology, data, and business intelligence teams to ensure integration of analytics solutions with enterprise platforms, participating in testing, implementation, and end-user support. Contribute to program governance by assisting with documentation, communication, and reporting, and staying informed about enterprise data and BI solution rollouts, features, and functionality. Minimum Qualifications: 7+ years of experience in analytics, data science, or risk quantification, with hands-on expertise in statistical modeling and advanced analytics. Experience working on large-scale data projects, with practical exposure to Big Data platforms such as BigQuery, Databricks, or Snowflake. Proficiency in SQL, Python, and related tools for querying, processing, and transforming complex datasets. Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, including relational and dimensional modeling. Demonstrated experience in ETL development, metric design, and data transformation best practices. Proficiency with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, ThoughtSpot, Alteryx, Cognos). Background in operational risk, internal audit, or control management, with familiarity in risk frameworks and data-driven risk management practices. Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience contributing to or mentoring within a team environment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working within financial services, with exposure to regulatory, operational, and financial risks. Familiarity with the regulatory environment governing operational risk in financial institutions. Knowledge of applications, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines.
