The Water Resources Engineer/Modeler at this level work with limited guidance from a civil engineer lead to execute the duties and responsibilities listed below using the appropriate tools. While assuming responsibility for moderate design tasks they are still expected to communicate regularly with the engineering lead in order to minimize rework. This position will primarily focus on developing Hydrologic & Hydraulic (H&H) models using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS (1d and 2d) and other software, as directed by the engineering lead. The applicant must be able to develop a model from scratch, and analyze existing and proposed conditions for different projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Hydraulic design of pipes/culverts and open channels. Full working proficiency with HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS 1D and 2D modeling. Ability to create new H&H models as directed by engineering lead, and modify existing models as needed. H&H analysis using WinTR-55, WinTR-20, HY-8, HydroCAD, SWMM. Familiarity with NRCS/SCS Runoff Curve Number Method. Knowledge of GIS software and applications (e.g., Arc GIS) related to H&H models. Ability to export shapefiles from HEC-RAS to other GIS software and analyze results. Full working proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel & Word). Self-starter with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skill. Ability to work independently with some supervision, as well as part of a team when needed. Ability to develop engineering report based on H&H modeling results. Ability to mentor peers and younger personnel. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Minimum 10 years of industry related experience with 8 years of design experience. Can read and interpret engineering reports. Experience developing H&H models. Familiarity with current releases of AutoCAD Civil3D is preferred. Proficient with MS Word and Excel software. GOALS: Become H&H model technical lead. Become more self-sufficient. Mastery of technical tools and work processes.
