- Provides objective financial advice and opinions that positively impact the future of the project and associated plan.
- Provides objective challenge regarding spend plans and take a proactive role in looking for opportunities to deliver services more efficiently and effectively.
- Investigates opportunities as well as high risk and material financial issues, or problem areas, on the projects.
- Develops and proposes solutions and options to resolve/progress concerns to satisfactory outcomes.
- Supports the project managers in assuming greater degrees of financial accountability by providing local coaching and training to improve financial confidence and competence across the business units.
- Collaborates with the commercial team to provide forward looking insight and challenge, adding demonstrable value through delivering business insight.
- Reviews financial performance information and plans, (prepared by the project manager) – including the financial plan, budget and forecast, to ensure they are robust and accurately reflect key project issues.
- Ensure good cost control and cost management behavior on projects.
- Promotes good financial disciplines, and risk management processes.
- Ensures a robust and effective internal control framework and compliance environment exists across the project and addresses risk management processes.
- Ensures accounting processes on projects (billing, management of revenue and capitalization of projects) are disciplined and effective.
- Work proactively with key project managers to develop successful partnering relationships.
- Influences and challenges financial plans.
- Collaborate with members of the finance business partner community (across other business units) to promote and share business partnering ideas, learnings, experiences and best practice.
- Develops an effective relationship with key staff in the oracle support center.
- Collaborates with super users and support the development of an effective network. The super users will be used to help the senior finance business partners to manage peaks and troughs of workload and to help project managers resolve issues.
- Supports project managers with the creation, amendment, maintenance and review of project financial plans, budgets and forecasts.
- Support the set-up of projects and tasks structures so that the appropriate management information can be extracted.
- Acts as a critical adviser on key financial decisions.
- Manages direct reports (Finance business partners, carrying out performance management reviews and acting as a point of escalation where required).
- Acts as a positive representative for finance with business stakeholders.
- Suggests good practice ideas into finance and support their adoption on a continuous improvement basis to improve service, quality and/or efficiency.
- Facilitates collaboration between team members through sharing information, collaborating on decision making, and taking mutual responsibility for the work of the team.
- Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.
- Financial/accounting experience.
- Professional accounting qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, (or equivalent) qualification.
- Degree (or equivalent) standard of education.
- Demonstrable experience in delivering a finance business partner role.
- Strong knowledge and experience in budgeting, planning and forecasting.
- Strong knowledge and experience in management reporting and analysis.
- Ability to provide actionable insight and recommendation to business counterparts.
- Strong ability to provide sound project financial advice.
- Adaptable and influential; able to deliver information in a digestible way to their audience, with clarity and precision.
- Comfortable with risk and working with ambiguity.
- Strong attention to quality and detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
