The SE OJT will work under the guidance of experienced Solutions Engineers to learn and contribute to various aspects of Cisco's pre-sales engineering process. This includes assisting with technical presentations, demonstrations, proof-of-concept deployments, and customer interactions. The intern will gain practical experience in designing, configuring, and troubleshooting Cisco solutions.Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of technical presentations and demonstrations to customers.
- Support the design and implementation of proof-of-concept (POC) deployments.
- Shadow senior SE in customer meetings and technical discussions.
- Learn to configure and troubleshoot Cisco networking and security products, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless solutions.
- Assist in the development of technical documentation, including configuration guides and troubleshooting procedures.
- Research and stay current with the latest Cisco technologies and industry trends.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions.
- Support the development of lab environments for testing and demonstration purposes.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Proficiency: Foundational understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing, and switching. Familiarity with operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux).
- Programming/Scripting Skills: Basic proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and troubleshooting tasks.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze technical problems, troubleshoot issues, and propose solutions effectively.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts.
- Familiarity with Network Automation Tools: Experience or coursework involving network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python scripting for network automation) would be highly beneficial. This skill allows for efficient network management and configuration, which is crucial in a Systems Engineer role.
- Understanding of Cloud Computing Concepts: A foundational understanding of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and services would be advantageous. This knowledge is increasingly relevant as Cisco solutions integrate with cloud environments.
- Experience with Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Prior exposure to network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark) and troubleshooting methodologies would be valuable. The ability to identify and resolve network issues is a core responsibility of a Systems Engineer.
- Excellent Communication and Presentation Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely, are crucial for interacting with clients and colleagues.
- Project Management Experience: Any experience with project management methodologies or tools (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Jira) would be a plus. This skill helps organize and handle tasks, which is crucial for successful project delivery.
