Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Accountant to lead all aspects of construction finance, project-based accounting, and operational billing for our executive team. You will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, managing billing cycles (including AIA documentation), tracking job costs and profitability, and supporting compliance for multi-state operations.

This is a hands-on, full-cycle construction accounting role with opportunity to grow into a Controller position as the business scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Construction Project Billing: Prepare, review, and submit monthly billing and requisition packages for construction and design projects, including AIA G702/G703 forms.
  • Job Cost Tracking: Manage project-specific cost accounting using QuickBooks and internal spreadsheets, ensuring alignment between operations and accounting records.
  • Financial Reconciliation & Reporting: Coordinate with the company bookkeeper to reconcile project accounts, track profitability, and support financial reporting.
  • Tax Documentation & Compliance: Prepare documentation for quarterly sales tax filings and support multi-state tax compliance in collaboration with the company’s CPA.
  • Bookkeeping Support: Take ownership of or support internal bookkeeping workflows, depending on experience and capacity.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, increase accuracy, and enhance visibility for project managers and executives.

Requirements

Non-Negotiables:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in construction accounting, bookkeeping, or finance for a U.S.-based construction or design-build firm
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel/Google Sheets
  • Strong understanding of project-based accounting, AIA billing formats, job cost tracking, and profitability reporting
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • High integrity and discretion when handling financial information
  • Comfortable working remotely and using cloud-based collaboration tools

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience supporting design, architecture, or construction firms as the primary accountant or finance lead
  • Familiarity with Asana or any project management tool
  • Experience coordinating across multiple time zones or supporting global project teams
