- Represent clients directly before the IRS under authority granted by Enrolled Agent credential.
- Prepare and submit IRS authorization forms (including Forms 2848 and 8821) as required.
- Research, analyze, and resolve complex IRS notices, penalty assessments, and compliance inquiries.
- Utilize IRS e-Services, Transcript Delivery System (TDS), and related tools to obtain and interpret federal tax transcripts and case data.
- Negotiate with IRS representatives to secure appropriate and compliant resolutions.
- Ensure adherence to Treasury Department Circular 230 standards of practice.
- Resolve and process complex federal tax correspondences and amendments.
- Understand and navigate the end-to-end lifecycle of federal tax inquiries and amendments, identifying root causes to reduce future financial impact, penalties, and interest.
- Serve as escalation support for federal tax matters requiring advanced technical knowledge.
- Maintain proactive communication with clients and federal tax authorities to ensure timely and accurate resolution.
- Demonstrate resourcefulness and self-sufficiency in answering complex federal tax questions.
- Ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs), quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a Federal Tax Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the team.
- Provide coaching and technical guidance related to IRS procedures, compliance requirements, and resolution strategies.
- Assist in auditing team cases to ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Develop, share and deliver training materials and knowledge content related to federal tax updates and IRS best practices.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, technical excellence, and shared accountability.
- Identify trends in IRS notices or compliance risks and recommend preventative strategies.
- Contribute to the improvement of documentation, workflows, and operational processes to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Support and actively participate in initiatives designed to strengthen operational readiness and federal compliance standards.
- Partner with internal departments to resolve systemic issues, remove operational barriers, and improve end-to-end processes.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships that promote collaboration, transparency, and shared accountability.
- Active Enrolled Agent (EA) credential required at time of hire.
- Must maintain active EA status throughout employment.
- Employee is responsible for understanding and fulfilling all IRS requirements necessary to maintain credentialing, including:
- Completion of required Continuing Education (CE) hours (currently 72 hours every three years, including ethics requirements, per IRS regulations).
- Timely renewal of enrollment according to IRS renewal cycles.
- Compliance with Treasury Department Circular 230 standards governing practice before the IRS.
- Failure to maintain active Enrolled Agent credential may impact eligibility for the role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in federal tax resolution, IRS representation, payroll tax, or related tax compliance roles.
- Demonstrated experience representing clients before the IRS.
- Deep understanding of Federal tax law, IRS notice resolution, penalty abatement, and compliance procedures.
- Strong analytical and root cause problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex federal tax issues for diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to mentor peers and contribute to team knowledge development.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume operational environment.
- Proficiency working in a Windows-based environment, business applications, and proprietary tools.
- Superior negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
