The Estimator is responsible for managing the full estimating lifecycle across all stages of steel fabrication and construction projects. The role plays a critical part in engaging with clients, developing project scopes, preparing competitive tenders, and supporting handover to the delivery team. This position requires technical and commercial knowledge to prepare accurate cost estimates, identify value opportunities, and support strong project delivery foundations. The Estimator is also responsible for maintaining client relationships and ensuring alignment with Pacific Construction Group's commercial and quality objectives. Key Responsibilities: Receive and respond to client enquiries, both existing and potential. Discuss project briefs and scope directly with clients to define deliverables. Develop project design outlines and construction concepts in consultation with clients. Estimate costs for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors. Develop of high level construction program incorporating labour and equipment hours Prepare and submit bids and tenders; liaise with clients to secure contracts. Develop detailed scopes of work and supporting documentation for awarded projects. Import of detailed cost budgets into company costing system Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure clear understanding at handover. Support project delivery by providing input on variations, delay claims, and progress claims. Monitor ongoing projects to ensure delivery aligns with client expectations. Client Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients. Work closely with clients to understand needs and offer value-engineered solutions. Maintain consistent communication post-handover to ensure project satisfaction. Communications: Provide updates to the General Manager on major estimates prior to submission. Maintain clear records and documentation related to estimates and bids. Coordinate communication between estimating, design, and delivery teams. Escalate issues or scope changes early to manage risks. Safety and Quality: Adhere to Pacific Construction Group's Quality, Environment, and Safety policies. Follow all HSQE procedures including SWMS, SOPs, and emergency protocols. Report deviations from safe work practices or company standards. Maintain accurate documentation for compliance and auditing purposes. Essential Criteria: Minimum 5 years' post-trade or professional experience in steel fabrication and construction. Proven experience in estimating both workshop and site-based construction works. Conduct detailed MTO's for materials & consumables Review of commercial documents for the client, completing contract deviations for management review. Incorporating these risk into the bid. Familiarity with structural, machinal & piping drawings, specifications, and construction methods. Assisting in the building of Variation claims Strong communication and negotiation skills. Ability to convey technical and commercial information clearly Attention to detail on tender submissions, client required documentation and professional packaging of the documents Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills. Experience using estimating tools such as Expert Estimation. MYOB Advanced (ERP) Microsoft Project (MS) or Primavera (P6) Auto Cad, Blue beam Understanding of document control or project management platforms preferred. Show more Show less
