As a Payroll Officer, you'll assist in end-to-end payroll activities while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality. You'll be responsible for supporting payroll processing cycles, maintaining payroll data, and responding to payroll inquiries with professionalism and care. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, process-driven, and eager to grow their payroll expertise in a structured, high-performance environment.Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing
- Assist in preparing and processing accurate and timely weekly, fortnightly and/or monthly payroll for employees, including calculating wages, benefits, taxes, terminations and deductions and lodgement of STP.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of payroll information (i.e. leave management, tax declarations, etc.) by collecting, calculating, and entering data in payroll systems.
- Adhere to all relevant statutory requirements and company policies while processing payroll, ensuring legal compliance with FairWork, tax regulations and Australian payroll standards.
- Maintains strict confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and client data.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees/clients, providing excellent customer service and resolve issues promptly.
- Prepare and distribute payroll reports to stakeholders as needed.
- Assist with monthly and annual payroll tax lodgements and reporting.
- Support superannuation lodgements in line with compliance and client requirements.
- Assist with WorkCover annual lodgements and reports.
- Support end-of-year payroll processes and reporting.
- Manage workload autonomously by prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines promptly and proficiently while maintaining precise transactional records.
- Maintain accurate time recording and task documentation ensuring that time is accurately recorded and ensuring that time records are up to date and accessible.
- Participate in training, mentoring, and upskilling initiatives to help you improve your skills and knowledge and stay up to date with the latest developments in payroll practices, software, and regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Human Resources, Business or a related field
- 1-3 years of payroll experience, with exposure to end-to-end payroll processing
- Experience using payroll systems (Employment Hero preferred)
- Proficient in MS Excel and comfortable working with payroll data
- Exposure to Australian payroll is an advantage
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on payroll accuracy
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritize payroll deadlines
- Logical, methodical, and analytical approach to problem-solving
- Ability to quickly learn new payroll systems, processes, and legislation
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with strong initiative and accountability
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple payroll cycles
